When you ride your bike are you just a passenger or are you a driver?

Think about the difference between an F1 driver and a Moto GP rider. One sits in a seat and pilots his car round a track (yes i know they are good at what they do!) and the other constantly adjusts his body weight to control his machine....

After months of earth moving, organic layer removing and building the features, the first tyre prints have appeared on the pump track.

We are entering a crucial period for the pump track. As the final features are built and shaped, the surface finally looks smooth enough to ride. Trouble is, it isn’t really strong enough to withstand any major use. We can’t put up keep off signs, but we would be really grateful if those in the know (thats you reading this) could help by giving us time to complete the track before riding it.

Not only did we get a decent turn out to finish the Decent Line but the Sun only went and showed its face for our BBQ!

Me & Jon grabbed an early blast round Norwood, which is riding real nice at the moment before joining the rest of the guys in the car park, a quick change of footwear and we hot footed it down the hill to help out Knacker & Dave who had started early as usual.

The Dalby pump track is really starting to take shape now. After a few months of shovelling and removing the soft organic layer, the track is starting to emerge from the ground to reveal its swoops and berms.

This month’s progress was helped immensely by Stuart Startup (Forestry Commission Bike Ranger) who turned up on his day off to bring along some motorised assistance.

My pride & joy

Have you ever sat down and calculated just how much your bike is really worth?

Recently one of our esteemed crew had the misfortune to have his garage cleared out...
They came armed with a few simple tools inc a big set of bolt croppers (no doubt nicked!) and left with three very expensive bicycles.

News in from the latest Brownbacks Race at Lee Quarry, Bacup.
Glorious weather saw a dry and dusty course, with temperatures rising it was clear it was going to be a hot day in the saddle for the racers. Despite competition from the world cup and the national road race championships just up the road there was a strong entry again. A new course with some "off piste" favourites and new surprises saw a few riders going straight over the handlebars comedy falling into a run on the first lap before the pace settled down.

The hottest day of the year so far, and we volunteer to move tonnes of soil? That ll be the June Dalby dig day then!

Lots of new faces, some of which stopped to lend a hand mid-ride! Respect to anyone who will stop mid way around the red route to shift tonnes of soil, then set off into the midday heat. Cheers to Rob and Ian for making a big dent in the soil shifting.
