The rim on my front wheel is well and truly warped following a ride round the Boulder Trail. And it's not just down to spoke tension - I've loosened off all the spokes and the rims is bent first to the left and then to the right. Tried to true it just by fettling the spokes but it's too bad to straighten out.

Anyone got any ideas whether & how I can get the rim straightened? I read some advice on t'Interweb which suggested trying to bend it straight over a plank of wood - but no luck - the metal (aluminium, I think, or some kind of alloy - not steel anyway) is too springy.

Any advice welcomed, otherwise I guess it's time for a new rim :(

You can bend it back into a general shape with a bit of brute force. Stick bent section in a vice (to grip it) and push on wheel to get it straighter you have to push it further than the bend to bend it back into place or as you say will spring back. Then try true more with spoke tension etc.

It will be an alloy and the more you bend it the weaker it will get and you won't ever get it true again.

PJ is good with wheels
