Im looking for a new FS All mountain bike as ive been working all summer and have money to spend. Around £1500, but will prob get it on interest free as the money is better in my account than the bikes shops!!!!

Looking to get a giant, commencal or the like.

Any suggestions????????????

Yeah, what Knacker said,
Get some test rides on demo bikes and mates bikes.

Although having said that I've never had a test ride on any of the bikes I've bought so far..................

I'm sure you have already but read as many magazine reviews as you can, there's a lot of bull Sh!t written in them but it'll give you an idea of what they ride like.

I'd short list the commencal meta its a great piece of kit and descends very well but have found others much better at going back up,,, not thats its bad by any stretch.

You may struggle to find someone who has stock in the right size though unless you opt for a custom build but again merlin have deals on that.

Thanks for the advice!!!

Quite like the meta 5.5 but was thinking about getting a giant reign 1 from all terrain as they do interest free and you can have a proper test ride, anyone got one so they can shed some light on what the handle etc.

Wolfdog had one for a while.
I don't think he really got on with it, I think it was a bit heavy and the Marzocchi forks were a bit complicated to set up.

Get a test ride though you might like it.

It now has Fox Float RL forks which i guess will be easier to set up then the marzocchi's.

All terrain do these Bobby http://www.allterraincycles.co.uk/product/110072.html i would recomend you have a test ride as they use the DW link thing which prevents bob, same as whyte bikes and intense use (virtual pivot point).

Might not be what your after but should give a good idea of how a linkage system works and something to compare the single pivots and four bars with.

Crosstrax have the lappierre's in and dont have interest free credit but we can always discuss prices with Ed!!

He still has a meta 5.5.3 and some meta 4's which have been overlooked this year as everyone has become obsessed with more travel.

Unfortunately he no longer has the demo bikes (other than a yeti).

Bang for your buck I still think specialized are worth a look.

Robs Giant was sweet it also had some kind of linkage going on which meant it virtually locked out when climbing, it did climb very for a biger bike.

in a bit of a dilemma :?

Not sure whether to go for the 08 model now or wait for the 09 the only difference is that it comes with a dhx shock and an extra £100 to the price tag!!!!!

If i wait for the 09 which is due to be launched in october i wont get much riding done as im off to uni.

What would you do????

The only problem with them ones from pauls cycles is that they only have them in certain sizes of which none of them are the right size for me!!
