Shame for who? The guy that posted it? He seems to be getting it back pretty hard now.

LOL,, love the comment that the descent line sucks and should get in experienced trail builders,, maybe we should point out that it was the only bit of trail at Stainburn built by an experienced professional trail builder and we are planing on adding new lines etc to improve it.

I meant shame that you get some support off STW in trying to drum up people and someone steams in second post to say it )and we) are sh1t. Whether or not it's true I bet it puts some folks off.

Hey ho, life's short and time is too sweet to waste (and yes, it is nice to see a few people other than gobby old me trying to put him straight).

K - I hadn't though of that  but then again I don't think the DL is sh1te either.

He probably doesn't like Stainburn because he can't ride any of it!!

Like my dad always said, "Those that can, do, and those that can't, criticise!"

Anyway, Big bertha is back.
Have straightened and reinforced the bar, kept it to a minimum as i didn't want you guys having to take up weights just to lift it!!

Hope its an improvement, any probs, shout up.

Chilly

Hi There just thought I would sign in and say I will be there on Sunday for the dig. I'm a newbie too so no idea what I'm doing but willing to pitch in and learn. I can put a wheelbarrow and a few tools in the car if that would help.

Hi there, it's always good to see new faces at digdays.
Don't worry if you don't know anything about trailbuilding, just turn up on Sunday and someone will get you started.
Barrows always come in handy, as do spades.

Just to reiterate, we are finishing early on Sunday for the AGM, approx 01.45pm i think so for all those first timers, bring some food, water, etc and don't forget your bike, you should have the energy left for some riding....

Big thanks to everyone who turned up today, huge progress, lots of new trail bedded, 2 streams crossed and 1 lovely berm.

Thanks again to Pook for giving up shovel time to video our trails and Chase, Si and Tom for sacrificing valuable barrrow time to spend the best sunny Sunday in ages riding/starring in said video, why did i put my bike back in the van!

Special mentions to Jez & Dave, The Barrow Kings who will no doubt be unable to even pick up Singletrack magazine today...
And to Joel & Tom for once again restoring my faith in youth.

Dave if you PM me i'll give you the number for Wheelbarrowers Anonymous!

Lets hope we can get some aggregate layed next month, might be riding it by summer.

Hopefully Cheeky will be along with a roll call but if not you all know who you are and thanks again.

Just like Jase said big thanks to all that turned out at took part today great progress made.

Aggregate should be ordered and delivered to DOB park before the next dig day we a re working on a way to get this moved up the hill so we can surface as much as possible next dig day. That should give it chance to settle before we link it up to the descent line proper..

Think Jase and Knacker have said it well already but will just add my own congratulations and thanks to everyone who put in the effort on Sunday. I'll stick the roll call up tonight. Phenomenal tornout, one of the best I've seen in over a year.

Other than Gregg did anyone get any pics?

I'll make my apologies now for missing the next dig day (planned for 04 April, Easter Sunday) but I'll be in the Borders, hopefully enjoyng some trails with the family. Will be sorting things with Knacker etc to make sure we've got the materials we need.

There might be an extraordinary dig session with a mech barrow / something to take some of the strain before the official "first Sunday" dig to move aggregate up the hill. The tipper lorry will probably only get to the bottom of the trail (where Knacker parked). We need to get aggregate uphill, pretty much at the start of the Extension / end of the current DL. Otherwise, pushing loaded barrows up hill is going to be deadly.

Diggers (and riders, cameramen etc) on the day:

  • Simon Green
  • Andy Owenson
  • Dave Brayshaw
  • Joel Hart
  • Tom Rymer
  • Jeremy Sainter
  • Tim Sellors
  • Mat Bancroft
  • Ed Steele
  • John Light
  • Gregg Tatum
  • Ian Sikora
  • Nick Burgin
  • Elliott Wood
  • Paul Stokes
  • Paul Hopwood
  • Oliver Nissen
  • Chris Maloney
  • Jason Ashworth
  • Si Booth
  • Paul Stevens
  • Tom deBruin
  • Knacker

22 in total and I think I've got everyone. Apologies if anyone's missing, shout up and correct my spelling as necessary. Photos to follow soon.

I've found the owner of the black Oakley fleece (Jase) but is anyone missing a 1 litre, stainless steel flask (previously filled with black coffee)? If so then I've got it, you can either collect it or I'll make sure it's at the next dig day.

Great work everyone, huge amount of work done by the end of it!

When the trail is finally completed we could have a day where we can all meet up and ride it etc. We could even get some promotion of the trails through facebook, singletrack world, etc as a 'grand' opening. 8)

Depending on turnout/date of completion maybe even a barbecue! (....Or that might be too much, although I don't mind tending a barbecue for a yummy sausage butty!)

--

In the future, would be quite good to organise a day where everyone can meet at the trails without spades......but with bikes instead!

Tom.

Shifting all that rock with the wheelbarrow has done wonders for my shoulders. I've even been able to go climbing tonight without them giving me grief.
