As some of you may have noticed or read a few of us have been going up and clearing some of the thick organic material from the boulder trail to help redefine the line and check for sections which need repair etc. Its been many years since some of the rocks have been visible and some clearing work has been long overdue.

So far we have cleared the section down to the slab and also started a small section below the berm around Tom and Dick.

We plan on going up on evenings to do more work on this rather than commit a couple of dig days as we don't have enough brushes and rakes for everyone but would be good to have a few extra hands.

So who's up for helping and when?

Me and Dave planning on heading up tomorrow 10th April early evening for a few hours and continuing down top, dick, harry, steps of doom etc

Me, Dave and John did a few hours last night clearing the trail and have done a rough clearing down to the Arrow. The rock is now a lot more visible again which should provide more grip (and intimidation) once the fine layer of dirt has weather off.

Thinking of going up again on Thursday is anyone is free??
Will start at the arrow and keep working our way down.

So far the clearing is going well and make a dramatic change to the trail best not leave it 8 years before we do it again.
Moved a small rock to block a corner people had been cutting and did a second sweep of the section from Dick to the arrow and have now rough cleared to the Wall.
Need to do some repair and alteration around the arrow to make sure people stay on line but we can do that on Sunday at the dig day.

When we go up next we will return to the slab and clear the climb back to the car park so that the trail is cleared from start to Wall before moving on.

Next session is/was planned for Friday evening however the forecast is heavy rain. If its clear then Ill be heading up if not I won't and its the dig on Sunday and if the weather isn't great we could always do this.

Thinking of making it a regular event on a Tuesday evening.

Managed to clear most of the weird wood climb last night, the down and climb to the rock section which is just outside the tree line has been cleared and the remaining climb has had a quick rake to define the line. It should ride much better but its worth noting that judging by the tyre tracks and rock scrapes most people haven't been riding the line for some time and a couple of sections took some finding.

Will be back up on Tuesday night and as planned will be working from the slab back to the car park and hope to start from around 4:30.

Ill be up at the woods on Thursday while more materials are delivered to site for future works and repairs to the climb and DL so Ill carry on with the work in weird wood then but anyone is welcome to join me

The first loop from the car park has now been cleared, as with all the trail we aren't trying to get rid of everything but clean it up define the line while allowing it to look fairly natural and established.

As it stands we have cleared from the car park to the slab, hairpin, spine, tom, dick, harry, steps of doom, arrow to the wall. We have also cleared most of the section of the climb in the trees known to many as weird wood.

Next Tuesday we will start at the Wall and see how far we can get. With a good turnout (and after I've fixed the brooms) I think we can complete in 3 more evening sessions.

For anyone who was thinking we had another session planned for tonight that has been pulled so will return on Tuesday,,, unless people are really keen to do a ride and a bit of TLC over the weekend?

We have cleared the section from the wall to the end of the cascade it was slow going in a few sections in order to block off some of the new lines formed some of which it may be worth looking at building at some point.
Also found a few bits that need some repair work so may split the team on Sunday to do some of these. Thats unless a few people are free on Thursday or Friday evening and would like to finish the clearing on Weird wood and do some small repairs??

Will be going back next Tuesday and pick up from the cascade and try clear to the north shore. When we get to the North shore we need to do a serious tidy up as all our carefully stacked bits of wood have been pulled out and thrown all over the place.

I can report that after riding it last night it is now even scarier!

If you could just fill Hovis with hardcore and a handrail, I might even try and ride it... On the plus side I got round the firstl L shaped corner on the North Shore :)

Thanks peeps. 8)

Its not scarier just back to how it used to be,, kind of.

Another good session last night and have cleared from the bottom of the cascade to the top of the cole shute.
Lots and lots of organic on the climb and very thick mud and the rock section below the cascade which we think is run off from the chicken run. Be warned if you thought this was rocky before it really is again now. I thought I remembered what it was like before the built up but obliviously not!.

Next Tuesday we will try clear the final section of trail from the cole shute to dob park. Oh and tidy up some of the scrap wood etc that has again been spread all over near the NS.

Ill be parking at dob park rather than the car park and would recommend that anyone who is coming along park by the church and walk in. If you know the short cut over the fence to below the NS it really isn't far.

With a good turn out we really could see this job done.

At the next dig day I think we will send a team of people round to do some minor repairs to the boulder trail as we have uncovered some issues but to be fair most of the trail has held up very very well and its just some edging and a few bits that need filling.

We just about finished the clearing on the boulder trail just a few short sections between the jump and the bottom of the climb to be done and as we need to do some work on this section we will leave that till a dig day.

Thanks to
Dave
John
Jerome

And a massive thank you to everyone who has been out and helped over the last month or so to get the trail cleared it looks and rides so differently now. I recommend everyone goes and ride the trail soon.

We noticed at the weekend that the red climb has also got a little boggy so we may go up and clear this next week but I think we all deserve a rest.

He's just realised that if he keeps fixing things at this rate, he'll soon run out of excuses and actually ride his bike :)
