As discussed at today meeting let us have some feedback and let us know what sections you feel need work etc

...one of the first sections I would love to see a little bit of "tweaking" is the bit of trail known as "fossil canyon" the flowing trail from Crosscliffe bank side to the top of the Dalby Downhill

Excellent fast bit of trail that would benefit from a couple of simple tweaks

Just a starting point to get the ball rolling

I second gil's suggestion, some braking bumps that spoil the flow.
For me one section that has never really flowed and I always miss it unless doing a full red lap is the bit after you cross Forest Drive after Bickley Car Park until it then crosses over the forest drive again, can't find a name on the maps but sure you'll know where I mean, after talking with Stuart he said the same. May not be a short term fix but would be nice to have something better.

I haven't rode any of the red for over a month and can't remember any other bits that needs doing but for me the red route is riding the best its been for a while. Some of the smooth descents are cut up at the moment, but in a good way making it more rocky and adding a little bit more of a challenge. I don't know if some of these are going to be smoothed out because they have to be put back to a red grade (again after talking to stuart), but can't they be upgraded to black (not that they are) and a red route diverted around it? After all we are meant to be riding mountain bikes!!

Also think more info regarding trail building, websites/facebook needs to be out on the trails, will only gather more interest.

That seems bit long for a post but we are meant to be giving input :smt024

Could anyone do a listing of the names of the different sections of trail along with the numbers, linked in to a picture of the trail map as I don't know what most of them are called or what the numbers are, I just know where they are when I'm riding it!

I second Majiks suggestion of doing something with the bit after bickley car park, always find it more of a chore than an enjoyable section and quite often miss it and just use the road to bypass it.

I agree with the above, sed section is a bore, I will try and get out for a full lap as like most people I know my way around the red no worries, but putting names/numbers to sections is difficult. 20 odd miles remember.

I agree with Majiks when he says the red is as good as it's been for quite some time, a comment I made on the ATGNI website a couple of weeks ago.

I also agree that the bit of trail that runs up the side of the forest drive after the Crosscliff crossing to the point where it crosses over the forest drive again leaves a bit to be desired but the reality is it's not breaking up and we should'n fix what aint broken when there are (if there are) other bits that do need attention.

I rode pass section 23 today, on the road

Looks like materials have been dropped to repair the section, I would guess this will be done by contractors

The trail is certainly broken in places, this is mainly due to some quad bikes running up and down it when it was originally built. I think we all know it doesn't flow very well, mainly because it's slightly up hill

I guess if the surface is a little "flatter" it might roll slightly better, guess we need to see what it's like after the repairs with a view to a "tweak" if that's an option

The state of Section 23 was finally addressed yesterday when a turnout of 20+ saw the lower two thirds repaired to a good standard, only the most minor of repairs remain on the final third up to the end gate at the road.

Gil's comment about lack of flow by being slightly uphill is well founded, compounded by the settlement of the trail since original construction which produced a pronounced camber and overly ridged crown. The new trail surface is massively smother and the majority of the camber and crowning has been flattened out. Having ridden there this morning it is obvious that it is far easier to maintain a higher trail speed on the improved surface and therefore progress and flow is at a new level.

As a consequence of the improvement of Section 23 it has amplified the poor state of the surface on Section 22 which in the latter half, to the end gate at Bickley, has at least as poor surface as S23 had until yesterday. If S22 was resurfaced to match that of S23 the predominantly falling flow of the trail would give the section good pace.

Good to hear that the repairs seem to have improved things on the section.

How has the surface of the repairs held up?
